To spice things up a bit, I will be introducing a new segment to the blog which will be a motivational/lets talk series. we do know that this is a lifestyle blog which means that, it just not OOTD and travel, other things would be gradually introduced as at when I create time to make it happen. So, first topic for our talk today will be; Does hard work really bring happiness?
When I was growing up, My mum always said this words so much that its stuck in my mind “hard work brings happiness”. “Anything worth doing is worth doing well”. In our environment today, where hard work sometimes goes unnoticed, you work so hard for so little (its either most of your income goes to the tax man, or in some cases, you don’t even get paid for months).
I have friends say in the past, “it seems like the more your work hard and earn more, the more tax gets taken off you, so sometimes it just feels pointless, there’s no need to work or even struggle to work because, people stay at home and they get paid benefit which is from the tax from our hard work” more like rewarding people for been lazy sometimes.
This statement struck somewhere in me and I thought I should write about this because I have come to understand that no matter the situation or circumstance, hard work has its own benefit, it gives a sense of self-worth and achievement and should not be overlooked or given up on.
One of my best quotes about hard work is;
“If a man is called to be a
street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or
Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets
so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say 'Here lived a
great street sweeper who did his job well.'” Martin Luther King Jr.
Work Smart Not Hard? Really!
A lot of people work hard to get good grades at school or get a degree or get a promotion at work and sometimes you see some other friends/colleague who don’t put in as much effort as you do, earn more money or get promoted to higher positions and this can get very discouraging frustration. I previously worked in an environment where I was told “don’t work hard, work smart” I still cant get my head round it, I’ll rather work both hard and smart because hard work definitely does pay off, working smart can only get you to a certain level but you need the benefit of hard work to out-stand the competition life brings to our table.
As people are always looking for ways to get better and improve themselves, it involves a lot of hard work and not just working smart, a computer program takes long hours of hard work, building a career takes long hours of hard work. working smart can only take you so far, but you need to work hard to attain the peak of your career. The richest people the world has recorded, worked hard to get the level of achievement they attained.
Sometimes this work smart not hard quote gets misinterpreted and I think I would blog about it at some point in future.
For now, here are some bible verses to back up the importance of hard work.
Ecclesiastes 9:10
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might, for there is no work or thought or
knowledge or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going.
Galatians 6:9
9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for
in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
Proverbs 13:4
4 The soul of the sluggard craves and
gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied.
2 Thessalonians 3:10
10 For even when we were with you, we
would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.
Proverbs 12:24
24 The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labour.
